Some state lawmakers are outright refusing to accept Federal money for unemployment benefits:

Remember in December the "GREAT BI-PARTISAN" Compromise whereby the rich had their tax breaks extended and the poor unemployed received extended benefits? Then fast forward to the questionable consitutional shennigans in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio and what party is behind all these "gotta save our financial future" decisions. You guessed it.... The rich will enjoy their GREAT tax breaks and the unemployed will go hungry Due To No Fault Of Their Own. It's more than dirty dog politics...I hope everyone remembers in 2012 the outright dishonesty exemplified by these elected officials.

It's really ridiculous. They're claiming that they don't want to contribute to our country going into debt. Pardon me, but, that money has already been portioned for unemployment. If it's not used, the White House will just send it to some other domestic program.

Ouch. I heard about this. I'd like to know if Republicans realize that that money is already portioned off for unemployment. By not accepting it they are not facing the reality that they'll only exacerbate the problem with the economy.

In reading the comments following the article, I like this response. I wonder if legally this can be done, it sure should be!
Quote from suncatcher8 10 hours ago (12:49 PM) 4 Fans "Since these extensions were bargained for in exchange for the Bush tax-cuts, I propose that any state opting out of these funds should also lose their Bush tax cuts for people making over $250,000 (since we are so broke and these tax-cuts are a privilege).

Unemployment is insurance is paid for in advance.

Middle class workers are tax-payers, too!

If one party breaks a contract, then it no longer applies to the other party either. THAT IS LAW!

RESCIND THE BUSH TAX CUT FOR PEOPLE MAKING OVER $250,000 NOW! "

Technically, I don't see how this can be done. The Democrats or the voters in the state would need to file a lawsuit against their own state for not accepting the Federal dollars. I think the reason would be that it would compromise the personal health of the people of the state.

It's not like a law has to be introduced and passed, the laws for some states are already on the books. Republicans are just flat-out saying "no" to Federal dollars to fund unemployment extensions on the sole reason that it's deficit spending.

I think, for this reason, that someone would have to file in Federal court to sue the "state-level" of government in order to force the state to accept the Federal dollars for Federal extended unemployment benefits.

Well, it looks like the republicans in congress are digging themselves a hole. Hopefully, come election time people will remember how they didn't hold up their end of the bargain.

I am wondering if this was the plan all along. Maybe the President knew if he took the tax cut deal the Republicans would show their true colors to the average American people who voted for them and bury themselves.
A bit far fetched...I know, but i cant help but wonder. Suspect

I don't see our country making it to an election. I think the problem is going to come to a head before the end of this year. Simply because nobody is taking a stand concerning Job Creation, The Economy or Unemployment Benefits.
