Post by Guest on Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:21 pm

It looks like they discovered another way to scam billions of dollars in new profits from consumers:

Lets all go back to checks and take our time filling them out when you pay. Slow the line down. Very Happy

I thought the banks wanted you to use an ATM card rather than a check?

You can always use your card for debit transactions.

Gee tax breaks for the rich and ATM fees for the unemployed. What a country!

I use my debit for mostly everything. I hardly ever use cash unless absolutely necessary. If I do need cash I try to get it at the supermarket where there is no fee for cash back. Some allow up to 200 back as well.

The other day I needed a money order, I couldn't even get one at chase bank without being a member.. Made feel better about stiffing them 5k in credit card debt that was wiped out in my Bankruptcy.

Read the article, everybody. With the new limits on banks regarding credit card fees, they're having to get creative on where to make up that money. All this is going to do is force Congress to develop a new law regarding ATM Fees. Banks are going to be forced to explain the justification in the higher fees to Congress.

That $5.00 fee COULD be for menbers too & get ready to be charged for your debit card to have a "fee" attached to it's use too. They can, and will.
And those 0.00% checks - the fine print now reads: $1.50 min. interest charge. It's listed under "Fees" and not interest! Yes. it's Chase.
My bank just switched to Wells Fargo and they are now charging $1.00 for a bank ATM statment - at their own bank.
Now, these fees aren't huge, but if they get it from thousands, or millions of customers...they can make their money - off US!
Read the fine print on the new stuff they send out. Some of it is not really clear. It can say they can charge a fee for this, or that, but it doesn't tell you exactly how much!

I'm switching to a Credit Union! They are not-for-profit. The people that "run" the bank live in the community. The credit union is, in effect, owned by everyone that has an account - NOT BIG CORPORATIONS. Search "the difference between banks and credit unions." It's interesting... Let's all switch - put the big banks out of business!

ATM industry has challenges, to be sure. The Middle East crisis may impact our industry indirectly. ATM fees are an unfortunate fact of life for out-of-network banking customers. With the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act cutting out the overdraft fees, banks are seeking to jack up the ATM fees to migraine-inducing amounts. Chase is leading the charge, with a $5 ATM fee for non-customers in Illinois. It sounds that the bank compensates with their money lose and non-Chase costumers will suffer the charges. Imagine the $5 is the charge. You can buy shoes for your baby with $5.

They are testing a $5 charge? Gee I wonder if anyone will complain?

I just won't use chase ATMs. I bank with a big bank now and I really want to go to a small local bank but If I do I will be spending money in fees everywhere I go. With my current bank they have ATMs all over the world. I didn't even pay fees in London.

Generally its best to use a credit union if possible. The fees are usually more reasonable and a credit union will offer members many services for free. My credit union offers free checking and free atm use.

The banking industry is getting out of control. Like they dont make enough money as it is now.

If you think about it, it is crazy for us to keep letting them get away with this. Charging us to get out own hard earned money? We are giving away our money to them! I am definitely going to check out the credit union. I have one right down the street from me.

I am so tired of all these greedy people sucking up what little money I have!

A while back someone mention "Ally Bank". Either on this forum or the other one. Not sure which. However, I did some investigating of my own. And opened us an account. My aunt and mother followed. There is no charges for anything. And there is interest on your money. All ATM fee's are refunded around the first of the month (if any is charged anywhere). I am not trying to sell anything here. It's true. Somewhere on this forum or the last one someone mentioned Alley Banking and I checked it out. They used to be GMAC. Or something like that. Anyway, I used my atm card all last month and on the 1st they refunded all ATM fee's that I incurred everywhere. There is also no checking fee's and no fee's for checks to be printed or mailed. IDK. It's worth a look.

I believe they are straight internet banking. To avoid all fee's imposed. But they pay for everything including extra Debit cards (mastercard) checks, and they even send you all postage paid envelopes. There's more but I'm still learning too. I don't mind not having a local walk in, never used them anyway. Always direct deposited or used internet banking or call in to check balance cleared checks ect.... so nothing new there. I mailed a check and it took only two days to get it and it was instantly on my account. And one more thing is they charge only 9.00 per day for overdrafts versus per overdraft fee's. No matter how many overdrafts per day it's 9.00. I've not had any but I know those who have and these regular banks eat them alive in fees. and they pay the check if you have direct deposit, thats what they say in the agreement.
